Local Trial Results

"Compost trials were carried out and supervised throughout by Jack Fanning in his garden at Dural in 2007. The preparation and contents of each compost heap were identical. Each heap was thoroughly mixed from the dry ingredients listed below to produce one cubic metre (1000 litres) of dry organic material  (refer picture at commencement of trial)

Control and Eokomit

-two bales of sugar cane mulch

-one bale of lucerne hay,

-two x 25 litre bags of pine sawdust / bark

-one x 25 litre bag soil / animal manure

The test ( Eokomit ) heap was prepared and treated with Eokomit according to directions. Both heaps received the same frequency and quantity of watering throughout the trial period of 14 weeks

Observations and Conclusions

After 14 weeks the Eokomit treated compost heap:
-Was approximately 30% less volume than the control heap
-Was considerably darker (blacker) in colour than the control heap
-Contained significantly more smaller pieces of decomposed and part decomposed organic matter

All these observations indicated a more rapid and efficient biological breakdown of organic matter by Eokomit and a corresponding increase in the rate of production of high quality compost and humus.

An interesting and unexpected observation from the compost trials was the rate and efficiency of the biological decomposition of pine board sheets that acted as retaining walls to each compost heap.

The intensity of bacterial attack and darker colour of the pine board sheet at the back of the Eokomit treated heap was noticeably greater than that of the control heap throughout the trial period which was additional evidence of the rapidity and efficiency of Eokomit in the breakdown of organic matter".
